HELPLINE-THE SERVICE OF SOCIAL PREVENTION FROM A VIEW OF A VOLUNTARY WORKER
HONZÍKOVÁ, Eva
Abstract The topic of the bachelor work "Helpline - social prevention service from the point of view of volunteer worker" was selected on the base of the author's own experience, as she herself is a helpline volunteer. The purpose of helpline is to support the client in crisis, which is highly ignored in today{\crq}s hectic time. Therefore it is a very topical problem. The line is not able to work fully without the help if volunteers, but such activity is very specific, laying considerable demands and responsibility on the volunteers. The bachelor work is focused on phone crisis intervention, advantages, disadvantages, stages and techniques of dialogue. An integral part of the work consists of the volunteers who are devoted a whole half of the work. It describes particularly the sense of volunteering, motivation, circumstances of decision-making, relationship with workers, volunteer training and reward for work. It mentions marginally the duty to pass supervisions. It is important to ascertain how the volunteers perceive the line. The aim of the work is to map the circumstances of the volunteers{\crq} engagement in the helpline activities; to specify what they expect from volunteering and what does it bring to them; find out how volunteering affects their private life and themselves; map the techniques used and find out what the volunteers follow at helping the client; clarify what the volunteers are afraid of at the helpline. Quantitative research was selected for this work. Semi-standardized interview was used as the collection technique. Recording sheet was used to record the data. The interview consisted of 6 specified circuits. The circuits dealt with identification data, volunteering, circumstances of becoming volunteer, use of specialized knowledge, helpline rules and environment support. The research set consisted of 10 volunteers from the helpline of the town of Písek, which is provided by Arkáda, the teaching-psychological advisory centre. The research was performed on the ground of Arkáda or in the volunteers' home environment. It took place in a period of two and a half months, from the beginning of February to the middle of April. The author set the following hypotheses on the base of the results of quality inquiry: The helpline volunteers prefer group supervision against individual one; beginners prefer techniques learned in the course of phone crisis intervention in the interviews; junior volunteers have problem with relationships with other workers. The author maintains the position that the work could be useful for an organization providing helplines. It would serve for better understanding of volunteers. It could be used in the subject of Volunteering, or possibly in the subject of Theory and Methods of Social Work.
